Time flies and by now it is already October. Another quarter of the year is over and at DEWETRON this means that it is time for a new release of our data acquisition software OXYGEN. Version 5.7 comes along with some CAN updates, a new calculation module, a few new export features and many more. Continue reading to get to know the new features.

You can use our measurement software OXYGEN for many different purposes in sectors like automotive, aerospace & defense, manufacturing & industrial and energy & power analysis. Especially in the automotive industry, engineers commonly use the Controller Area Network, known as CAN. It is a standardized bus for data transmission. OXYGEN offers an optional CAN-OUT functionality that provides acquired data on the CAN-bus.
With OXYGEN 5.7 the CAN feature received a few updates, but we also updated some other features.

CAN updates

From now on, you can use the new CAN editor to add or delete signals. It is also possible to edit CAN messages or even CAN signals. Adding comments for better traceability during postprocessing is another useful feature. Decoding of CAN messages as of now works without using the *.dbc-file. Furthermore, you can edit the CAN channel setup without having to use the *.dbc-file.

With OXYGEN 5.7 we also implemented a plugin to request and decode OBD2 parameters that are transmitted over CAN ports. Simply go to the channel list, select the CAN port, and add an “OBD2” channel. OBD2 parameters can be decoded from a predefined database or from a user defined file. Once you have selected the parameters to be decoded from the database, new channels will be added to the channel list.

New calculation module

Our software developers also implemented a new calculation module in OXYGEN 5.7 – the frequency measurement. This new module conducts a block wise frequency calculation of periodic signals. In the properties you can select the window duration from 0.01 to 1 second and the window overlap between 0 and 90 %. Additionally, you must select the minimum and maximum frequency between 0 and 5000 Hz.

New export format and new options

OXYGEN already supports many different export formats. That makes it easy to also proceed your acquired data in third-party software. From OXYGEN 5.7 you can also export your data in *.h5 (HDF5) that is used for large amounts of data.

We also improved some of our existing export formats. The *.xlsx export got a new useful feature. The user can choose to create a new spreadsheet for a new recording event or to create a new spreadsheet for every new measurement file.
For *.txt and *.csv you can now define the number of decimals for exported data.

You can also fill data gaps when exporting data with different sample rates. Like this, the last value will be repeated until a new value occurs.
Finally, the user can select if all or only some statistic parameters of the reduced data should be exported (AVG, RMS, MIN, MAX).

User experience updates

Besides all the already mentioned news in the new OXYGEN version, we also equipped our software with some user experience updates.
First, new commands for SCPI are available. You can now activate or deactivate the automatic export, set the target directory of automatic export, and activate the Zero action of one or several channels.

Another update for the table scaling has also been implemented. If the measurement value is out of the defined range, the scaling will be extrapolated.
From now on, the user has the option to store multi-files in the default data directory without creating a subfolder.
