Electronica 2020: Trade shows going virtual & our conclusion

The Electronica 2020 took place as an online trade show for components, systems and applications of electronics from November 9th to 12th. It is the world’s largest trade fair dealing with these topics.

Due to Corona, the year 2020 turned out completely different than we had planned, especially in terms of exhibitions. Trade shows for which we had already registered were cancelled because it was not possible to realize them. Special circumstances require special measures. So it is obvious that not only meetings, but also entire trade shows can take place virtually for the protection of employee health.

After the long time being in our home offices in spring 2020, we are already familiar with various online tools. We also started to offer webinars for our customers. Now DEWETRON participated in an online trade show for the first time – the Electronica 2020. The online fair is not comparable to the Electronica that usually takes place in Munich. But who knows – maybe online trade shows are the concept of the future.

Review of the virtual Electronica

For all those who cannot (yet) imagine what visiting an online trade show is like, we have summarized our impressions. If you log in to Electronica as a visitor, you will first be directed to the foyer. It virtually represents the Munich Trade Fair Center. An information desk with an explanatory video and general information provides an overview on how to navigate through the fair.
If you then navigate to the exhibition, you will get an overview of the various exhibition halls. Each hall focuses on different subject areas that are represented. DEWETRON is located in the hall about measurement technology. When you click on a hall, you get an overview of the exhibitors and you can choose a both you want to visit.

The booth stand

After a short loading time you will see the booth of the company you have chosen. The booth design is uniform for all exhibitors and unfortunately not as individually designed as at a “real” trade show. The information at the booths give a brief overview of the products and services the respective company offers. You can use the link to directly visit the company website. For an in-depth conversation with the exhibition team, you can dial into an online meeting and will be forwarded to a GoToMeeting session.

DEWE3-PA8, our product at Electronica

As an exhibition highlight, we presented our Mixed Signal Power Analyzer DEWE3-PA8. With up to 16 power phases, a sample rate of 10 MS/s/ch at 18 bit and a constantly low measurement error of 0.03 % the DEWE3-PA8 is the best solution for precise power analysis!
Do you want to learn more about our Power Analyzers? Ivica Baresic and Sven Deckert were present at Electronica and will of course be available to answer your questions after the show.

Conclusion

As everything in life, also the participation in an online trade show has its advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, participating in an online exhibition saves costs and time for travelling. Also, you do not need to do complex planning and construction of the booth stand. On the other hand, we think that a virtual exhibition can by no means completely replace a trade show on site. A conversation with our booth visitors via virtual meeting tool is not quite comparable to a personal conversation at the booth.
Therefore, we are looking forward to events taking place as usual and to welcoming you personally at our trade shows again!
