How to Configure Your DEWE-2522

To complete your DEWE-2522, you need to choose these key elements:

Any combination of up to 16 DAQ and/or PAD series modules
Any combination of up to 32 MDAQ channels
One ORION card with 32 channels Plus one ORION card with 16 channels (must both be 16-bit same speed), or three identical 16-channel ORION cards
DEWESoft acquisition software (select DEWESoft-6-PROF if you have more than one card, or a 24-bit card).

There are other options, but the above are required to complete the system. Let's take a closer look at your options in each category:

1. Choose your DAQ / PAD modules

DAQ modules are single-channel modules for dynamic signals. They have multiple ranges, and output conditioned 5V signals to the A/D card within your system. You need an A/D card in order to use DAQ modules.

PAD modules are multi-channel modules for static and quasi-static signals. They have built-in 24-bit digitizers and output directly into DEWESoft via the internal serial link.

1b. Choose your MDAQ configuration

MDAQ modules have multiple ranges and advanced capabilities overall. They represent the top of the MDAQ line. There is an MDAQ-INT-BASE card which accepts any two MDAQ-SUB cards. This modular "mother/daughter card" relationship means that you can pick any two MDAQ-SUBs for each MDAQ-INT-BASE. For example you can pick one MDAQ-SUB for 8 channels of ICP accelerometers, and another for voltage ... or strain gage. And now with our ADAP series "smart adapters," you can expand the capabilities of many MDAQ-SUB modules to even more input types.

So - for each block of 16 MDAQ channels that your system can accept, you need one MDAQ-INT-BASE-5 motherboard + any two MDAQ-SUB modules:

Simple MDAQ alternative...

There are two MDAQ-INT-V modules that have 2 ranges only, and are single-card solutions (not a BASE card and 2 x SUB modules):

2. Choose your 32-ch ORION card (or two 16-ch cards)

Since this system has 32 available dynamic inputs, you need to choose either one ORION card with 32 channels, or two identical ORION cards with 16 channels. There are several ORION cards available:

ORION-3216-100 (32 chs, 16-bit, 100 kS/s/ch)
ORION-1616-100 (16 chs, 16-bit, 100 kS/s/ch)
ORION-1616-500 (16 chs, 16-bit, 500 kS/s/ch)
ORION-1624-200 (16 chs, 24-bit, 200 kS/s/ch, anti-aliasing filtering)

Please choose one ORION from the available models!!

(Note - the standard ORION-1624-200 with optional external counter/encoders and digital inputs, is the version that is currently available). The -201, -202, and -203 models are following in 2008.)

3. Add DEWESoft software

DEWESoft pulls all the hardware together and turns it into an instrument. Trust DEWESoft acquisition software to make setup easy and intuitive ... recording fast and efficient ... and data replay/printing/export a breeze. The DEWESoft pages will tell you a lot more about our core software product.

4. Popular Options

Software options
If you have chosen an ORION card with CAN-BUS ports, you will need the DEWESoft-OPT-CAN software option to activate this hardware on your system.

If you need a powerful off-line analysis software package, we recommend Flexpro -- the power of high-end tools, but with a user interface that will remind you of Excel®!

HDD-options
You can upgrade the standard 100 GB HDD to a 200 GB HDD -- or add a second internal drive. There is also a removable HDD option, should you require it. For high shock and vibration applications, we can also upgrade the standard HDD to a solid state flash drive, which can survive in very rough applications.

ADAP "smart adapters"
Plug these into certain DAQ and MDAQ modules and convert the inputs to handle different signal types! ADAPs are compatible with the MDAQ-SUB-BRIDGE-D, MDAQ-SUB-STG-D, and MDAQ-SUB-V-200-D. See the ADAP page for further details.

External modules
If you need more external analog channels, you can add either EPAD modules or LPAD modules. EPAD modules are 1 Hz update modules which connect via CAN or the RS485-based EPAD port located on all Dewetron mainframes. LPAD modules are faster, connect via Ethernet, and are extremely rugged and resilient to terrible operating environments, such as the engine compartment of a car or under a train.
