Instruments in OXYGEN

OXYGEN – the most intuitive test and measurement software – became essential for data acquisition and analysis engineers throughout the world. What started little quickly turned into the go-to solution for complex and comprehensive acquisition and analysis tasks. Therefore, DEWETRON now provides a wide range of various instruments in OXYGEN. Keep on reading to get a first impression of what the software is capable of.

Instruments in OXYGEN – Overview – Part I

If you use OXYGEN 5.4, a range of 21 different instruments are at your disposal. In the following list, you can find a quick overview of all the available instruments in OXYGEN:

Please mind that the number of instruments in OXYGEN might differ according to your software version. To update your OXYGEN to the most recent version, please visit our download area in the customer care center. Furthermore, you can also upgrade it to receive any additional option (e.g. OXY-OPT-POWER-BASIC, OXY-OPT-POWER-ADVANCED, OXY-OPT-NET, etc.). For a comprehensive OXYGEN option list, please visit our dedicated website. Moreover, if you are not an OXYGEN user yet and you want to try it, simply download our free trial version here. To keep the overview simple, we have decided to divide it into two parts. Therefore, you will find illustrations of ten instruments in this blogpost. Therefore, keep following DEWETRON’s news to learn more about the entire range of instruments in OXYGEN.

Analog meter

In Figure 1, you can see a representation of DEWETRON’s analog meter. Similar to the other instruments in OXYGEN, you can adjust various instrument properties. Apart from different visualization options for the indicator, you can further customize the analog display of your measurement data. In short, you can see a summary of the available settings (range, limits, display value, style, and layer) on the right side of Figure 1.

You can assign up to 96 channels in a single analog meter.

Digital meter

The digital meter gives the user a quick and easy dashboard-like overview of the measurement channel. In addition to that, you can further expand the capability of the instrument. For instance, you can adjust the limits (e.g. change the color based on limit values), number format, and the precision (i.e. number of decimals). Apart from that, you can define a minimum number of digits and select the value type (actual, average, RMS, ACRMS, Min, Max, Peak2Peak).  Likewise, you can also customize the style (background, number of columns, borders) of the instrument as well as arrange your instruments in layers.

Like for the analog meter, the digital meter is capable to display up to 96 channels.

Recorder

DEWETRON’s recorder instrument expands the functionality of a strip chart recorder by several useful settings. In the instrument properties, for instance, you can modify the time axis which changes the X-axis format (auto, absolute time, relative time). In addition to that, you can of course also specify the range of the value axis (Y-axis). Apart from that, the instrument properties allow many other adjustment methods related to scaling, cursors, markers, etc. For more information, please refer to OXYGEN’s software manual.

Hint: you can display up to eight channels in a single recorder.

Chart recorder

Thanks to the chart recorder users get the ability to view several strip charts one below the other. The chart recorder offers the same properties and analyses as the regular recorder. However, you can even display up to 16 channels with one single chart recorder.

Bar meter

The bar meter is an additional way to display the measurement value of a channel. Similar to other instruments in OXYGEN, you can alter properties like the range (auto range available as well), limits, the display value, the style as well as instrument layers. You can assign up to 96 channels in one single bar meter.

Indicator

Keeping an overview of the measurement status is paramount. Therefore, we developed the indicator instrument. This instrument changes its color depending on the channel’s value. This includes the definition of limits where the user can define colors for instance for the upper and lower limit value. Thereby, you can again alter the display values to your needs and add up to 96 channels in only one indicator. Moreover, we prepared a video to explain how to create the recording indicator (Video 1).

Table

The table instrument allows you to display the measurement data of up to eight channels in table form. Thereby, OXYGEN creates a column for the time axis and assigns each signal to an individual column.

To summarize all your data in only one report, images might become an important factor. Hence, OXYGEN allows you to simply integrate any picture (e.g. from the DUT or your customer’s logo). To make use of this feature, you can select the path via the instrument properties and browse for the desired image file. Moreover, there are several options available to alter the image (e.g. fill mode, style, layer). In addition to that, you can also copy and paste images (*.jpegs or *.pngs) from the Windows Explorer into the OXYGEN measurement screen. Simply use the shortcuts CTRL+C and CTRL+V.

Text

The text feature allows the user to create customized text items directly on the measurement screen. This means you can display header data, date, time, and the measurement time within a text box. For a more detailed description of how to display header data in the text box, we recommend this video. The text instrument again offers several options e.g. you can change the color of the text, apply bold or italic format and adjust the horizontal as well as the vertical alignment.

Scope

With the help of this instrument, OXYGEN allows the user to analyze the scope of a measurement with up to eight channels. The edge selection allows the user to trigger signals on a rising or falling edge, with the possibility to freely define a level. In addition to that the option of a hysteresis is also available, in order to avoid a trigger event due to noise around the trigger level. For more information, please refer to OXYGEN’s software manual.
