E-Drive
Development and optimisation of electric drive trains
Electric motors offer high efficiency and high torque: ideal requirements for a powerful drive train. But in order to bring the power as effectively as possible onto the road, a drive train is necessary that optimally puts this challenge into effect. Gear drive, battery, power electronics and many more components are to be optimised for these requests.
Irrespective of the fact that a vehicle is perfectly attuned to the needs of an electric vehicle or that an electric drive train is integrated in an existing platform – the vehicle concept experiences an extensive change towards existing concepts with combustion engines.
The electric drive train consists of throughout known components. However, the adaptation of this drive train to the needs of automotive industry has not ended yet. DEWETRON offers you tomorrow’s measurement technology already today so that you are well prepared for this challenge.

Influence of consumption of electrical energy in the vehicle
Electric motors with their high efficiency factor and their high engine torque offer ideal preconditions for a powerful drive train. But to bring the power effectively onto the road you need a drive train that is optimally suitable for this task. Beside the gear and the power electronics the battery plays an important role. The battery decides on the productive efficiency and cruising range of the electric vehicle.
In order to be able to tap the full potential of electric drive trains an electric vehicle has to be newly developed. The vehicle concept will only be successful when it adapts to the conditions and limitations of the electric drive train.
This also includes a sophisticated planning of all auxiliary consumers. Energy is a scarce in the electric vehicle. Every additional consumer reduces the cruising range and the power. Intelligent concepts are needed that economise the energy of the battery. In order to make this possible a comprehensive recording system of measured data for the electric vehicle has to exist. All disciplines involved should calibrate and optimise these data. You need measurement technology in hard- and software with the competence for the entire vehicle? DEWETRON measurement technology accompanies you from the beginning of the approved prototype on to the start of series running.
Functional safety
The development of vehicles with electric drives holds many challenges. Due to the high voltage and currents that automatically occur in electric vehicles not only new technologies are essential. The methodology of vehicle development is subject to continuous change. Thus electric vehicles also need a complex high-voltage power supply additionally to the electronic and 12 V power supply.
The increasing complexity of electrically / electronically realised functionalities and the high-grade cross-linking of components require sophisticated planning of the E/E-architecture. The high-voltage power supply technology itself needs comprehensive adaptation to the standards and needs of automotive industry.
High voltage and currents inevitably produce electro-magnetic fields. The electro-magnetic compatibility of all electric components has to be taken into consideration already in the planning and conceptual design period as late changes can lead to high costs. But high voltages and currents also hold a high risk potential. To avoid risk exposure of the person in action during normal operation time and in case of damage, comprehensive safety measures have to be taken. Functional safety of electric vehicles must already be an integral part of the development process in the very first concepts in order to avoid corrections of mistakes later on.
In the end, all parts have to be merged to one working unit. The entire integration is the criterion for the development work. At this stage one can see whether the previous development processes have been effective and were cross-linked. The concept has to move onto the road? A step towards start of production is the prototype. DEWETRON is very experienced in this field and is in the possession of measuring facilities for the setup of prototype testing with high-voltage components.
